Polishing Your Car Scratches Out With T-Cut

Repairing Scratches With T-Cut

If you’ve got light scratches, ones that haven’t penetrated the paintwork it’s worth thinking about repairing scratches with t-cut.  This involves polishing these scratches out of the paintwork with t-cut. If the scratch penetrates into the colour of the paint – this won’t work you’ll need to get the paint repaired professionally.

Before you start make sure to clean the bodywork surrounding the scratch thoroughly. Then dry the area. These two steps are crucial before starting any repair.

Firstly get down to your local Halfords (or other car store) and pickup some t-cut. You can now get t-cut that is colour matched so try to match your car colour as closely as possible. Next:

    1. Clean the area with a soft dry cloth
    2. Apply T-cut to a soft cloth or cotton wool
    3. Target the scratch with a circular motion. You don’t need to apply too much pressure. Just keep on rubbing… and rubbing… and rubbing.
    4. If the scratches aren’t disappearing it’s likely they’ve gone through the clear coast AND the paint and you won’t be able to T Cut them out. You can only T Cut to the level of the clear coat
    5. Now clean the area with a damp cloth, then dry it off… and start again.
    6. Won you’ve done as much as you think you can (your elbow should be aching by now) wipe off with a damp cloth again.
    7. Now grab a dry, soft cloth. Polish it off and stand back and admire your handy work

Cut is good, but if you’ve got scratches that penetrate the clear coat, much as stone chips do, you’ll need the area resprayed. If you do give us a call for a no obligation quote.
